Support for Parenting Transitions: You're Not Alone

— by Meghan Johnson, LCSW, Well Brain Therapy

As we ease into a new season, I want to highlight a season of parenting that I care deeply about: perinatal mental health and parenting transitions.

Perinatal mental health refers to mental health conditions during pregnancy and the postpartum period. This is often an exciting and tender time—one that also comes with a range of emotions including postpartum anxiety, depression, isolation, and feelings of inadequacy. On top of these internal experiences, this stage is also full of external transitions—helping siblings adjust to a new family member, returning to work, and embracing a changing sense of self.

At Well Brain Therapy, I offer support for a wide range of parenting challenges, including:

  • Adjusting to parenthood and evolving identity

  • Perinatal anxiety, mood changes, and intrusive thoughts

  • Relationship or partner stress and communication

  • Feeding and breastfeeding challenges

  • Sibling transitions and return-to-work planning

Whether you're experiencing maternal burnout, new parent overwhelm, or navigating postpartum emotions, these challenges can feel heavy and disorienting.

I use evidence-based strategies to help you feel steadier, more regulated, and better equipped to handle daily life.

In addition to ongoing therapy for new parents, I also offer targeted sessions—a focused series (minimum 3) designed to help you ask specific questions, problem-solve transitions, and practice practical regulation tools for you, your child, or your partner.

There’s also a simple mental health worksheet to help you check in with yourself during this stage of life.
